Apokria – Excursion to Belfast

Dear Members and Friends of the Hellenic Community,

We would like to inform you that the Hellenic Community of Ireland is interested in organising a trip to Belfast in order to join an exciting event of the local Hellenic Community to celebrate Carnival (please see the attached). The event takes place on Sunday 21st of February and all the proceeds will go for the support of the Greek School in N. Ireland. The departure time would be at 11:00am from the Greek Orthodox Church (46 Arbour Hill, Dublin) and the arrival back to Dublin will be around midnight, with a small minibus for driving people without a transportation back home. As the bus arrangements would have to be settled before and the seat availability is limited, we would like you to notify us of your will to join as soon as possible.
The cost of the bus fare is €20 per person and the fee should be paid before Sunday 14th of February. For payments please contact the Vice President of our Community Mr Michael Youlton at 086 815 9487 or vice-president@helleniccommunity.ie.

On behalf of the HC Board,

Theodoros Nikolakopoulos
Acting Secretary
Hellenic Community of Ireland

Hellenic Community News

Dear members and friends of the Hellenic Community,

For your information:

  1. Cutting of the Hellenic Community St. Basil’s cake (or New Year’s cake). The cutting of the HC St Basil’s cake will happen on Sunday 31 January in the Greek school at 12:30pm after the Devine Liturgy.  The cutting of St. Basil’s cake is a ancient tradition, delivered to us from our forefathers, which we aim to perpetuate and in turn hand to our children (http://www.vasilopita.com/story.html). All are welcome. After the cutting of St. Basil’s cake we will hold an informal General Asembly meeting of our members for information purposes.
  2. Commencement of Greek traditional dance classes. The dance classes will recommence on Monday 25 January at 19:30 at the Greek school. All are welcome.
  3. Greek Kafeneion. The kafeneion will be open on Sunday 24 January from 14:45 until 19:00 for the football games between Aris and PAO and between Olympiakos and PAOK.

Best regards

Notification on cultural activities

Dear members and friends of the Hellenic Community,

The Hellenic Community of Ireland strongly supports cultural activities aiming at the promotion of the Hellenic Culture, the attraction of other Cultures to it, and vice-versa, and the development of ties of friendship among the Greek and other peoples. Under this spirit, I would like to draw your attention on the activities of the Classical Association of Ireland (download flyer) and the School of Philosophy and Economic Science (download flyer). I would like to make a special reference here to three very special colleagues, Dr Christina Souyoutzoglou-Haywood of the Classical Association of Ireland, and Mr and Mrs David Horan of the School of Philosophy and Economic Science, who for many year strive to uphold and promote the values that I mention above.

Finally, please be advised that the Hellenic Community of Ireland has paid a group subscription to the Classical Association of Ireland for 2009 and thus all Hellenic Community members are also members of the Classical Association of Ireland for the current year.

On behalf of the Management Board of the Hellenic Community

Warm Regards,

Thomais Kakouli
President of the Hellenic Community of Ireland
